Average draft position — the average pick number where a player is drafted across many leagues. It is a benchmark for timing your picks and spotting value, not a projection of how a player will score.

ADP stands for average draft position: the average spot in drafts where a given player is selected, used as a benchmark for whether a pick is early, on time, or a reach.
ADP is gathered across many real drafts and reported as an overall pick number. It tells you roughly when a player will be available, so you can plan which players to target in which rounds and spot value when someone falls past their usual spot.
A player who consistently outscores his ADP is a value; one who underscores it is a reach. ADP reflects the crowd's opinion, not a projection, so the useful move is to compare it against a player's actual value over replacement rather than treating it as a ranking.
